Thanks guyzilla and larus for your replies and further help.
Larus, that was something I was wondering, the trailers look to me like they were put together by the US distributors in the US as they feature an American voice over, feature the 'Distributed by...' details (not normally the film company that made them in the UK), are often re-titled and sometimes have the US age cert. Yes, I guess the question seems to be, does the copyright in the original British film clip used in them, make them still protected by copyright in the UK? Or are the trailers, being put together in the US, PD in the UK as I understand that all US produced PD material is PD in the UK. How far removed from the original films are these trailers?
Guyzilla, may be there is a different set of rules for trailers, then, sorry to throw a complicated question into the mix! Hope it doesn't cause a headache for people to tackle (and I really hope it doesn't result in you having to take down any of your trailers!)
Anyway, I do appreciate any help/information you have/can give me, thanks.

Nothing to be sorry for. Your question made me stop and think for a moment and that's never a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. As far as trailers go, no one's ever to my knowledge questioned their status, and as far as I can tell, no one's ever flagged one for copyright. I took one of my own uploaded trailers down once, but I only uploaded another print of it later from another source. If any of the staff took down any, I don't know about it because they don't announce their actions in that area.
